Latest news

14th December 2006: We have now clarified our policy on which groups you should join and post to.

13th September: We said a slightly sad farewell to the Norfolk group, but a very big hello to Norwich UK Freegle, officially launched today. It's amazing that in two years Freegle in Norfolk has grown enough to make this kind of expansion possible!

6th September: Broadland Freegle is launched - welcome to owner Michael. Also we've had an overhaul of the web pages to reflect group changes in Norfolk, Freegle's new Registered Trademark status in Europe, and a bit of re-structuring to make things easier to find (we hope!).

21st June: North Norfolk Freegle now active! Welcome to new owner Rachael and mods Dawn and Beth. (The Broadland application is currently uncertain so North Norfolk is being launched on its own - Norwich is still being held back as it is anticipated that most Norfolk UK Freegle members will join it, so it will be launched when Norfolk can be wound down).

10th June: Message Maker, an application developed by another UK Freegle moderator, is now available to members of all Norfolk Freegle groups. Input the information about your item, and it creates a fully formatted message ready for you to email.

8th June: New Member Information now online - a handy page with the most useful information for new members.

18th May: Norwich Freegle approved, but being held back for public launch to be done simultaneously with Broadland and North Norfolk, which are undergoing approval at the moment.

25th April: Great Yarmouth Freegle now active! Well done to moderator Jacky for speeding through the approval process, and welcome to co-mods Liza and Fran.

20th March: A selection of links added to cover setting up email filters to divert Freegle mail to a separate folder.

26th February: New online: a photo of Norfolk UK Freegle's Value from Waste award.

13th February: As of this weekend Norfolk UK has reached 2,500 members! All the district groups are also doing well, with South Norfolk having 350, Breckland 100 and our newest group West Norfolk having 50 - ignoring the possibility of duplicate memberships (there are some!), that's a round 3,000 in total :)

29th January: A section for repairs has been added to the Miscellaneous Links page - please let us know of any places offering repairs to any kind of item. Extending their useful life will keep things out of landfill, and items offered on Freegle may need some kind of attention to make them fully usable.

28th January: Freegle groups for Breckland and West Norfolk are now live! If you live in these areas, please join your local group and help it to grow by offering your items there first. You are welcome to then offer them on Norfolk UK Freegle if there is no interest on your local group. We're still seeking volunteers for North Norfolk, Broadland and Great Yarmouth areas, so please contact us if you fancy running a Freegle group there!

26th January: Norfolk (UK) Freegle has received an Achievements Award from Norfolk County Council to recognise and celebrate how we've helped Norfolk get more value from its waste. Michelle, Norfolk group founder, picked up the award at a reception at the Archive Centre at County Hall.

It just goes to show that a community helping each other and reducing waste can make a difference, so thank you to our members (all 2,000+ of you!) for taking part in the group and making it the friendly, successful community it is. Without your participation we would not have been nominated for this award.

Michelle said: "Thanks also go to the other moderators behind the scenes - most of their hard work goes un-noticed by members, but without their input we would not be as efficient as we are, so thank you to Katy, John, Jacky, Tim and Nicola for your help. Also thanks to Linda for taking on the South Norfolk group :)"

18th January: Please see the Policies page for information on giving things away by first-come-first-served methods.
